Banda
What is Griha Pravesh Puja?
The traditional housewarming ritual for entering a new home, Ganesh puja, Vastu worship, havan and the family's first formal steps inside, at an auspicious muhurat.
Griha Pravesh Puja is among the rituals families in Banda book most often, alongside Satyanarayan Katha, Rudrabhishek and Mundan Sanskar.

Griha Pravesh Puja in Banda: Local Traditions
Banda sits on the Ken river in Bundelkhand, with the Bamdev Mandir on its hill and the Neelkanth Mandir inside Kalinjar Fort a short drive away. Chitrakoot, where families go for parikrama of Kamadgiri, is close enough that many households tie a family puja to a visit there.
Banda follows the Bundelkhandi North Indian vidhi, explained in Hindi or Bundeli, with Kanyakubja and Saryupareen Brahmin families serving as family purohits for generations. Katha and havan are central to every occasion.

Griha Pravesh Puja vidhi, step by step
- 1Dwar puja and entry. The main door is decorated with a toran of mango leaves and marigold, swastik and rangoli. The family enters at the muhurat, traditionally right foot first, carrying a kalash.
- 2Sankalp. The Pandit takes the sankalp in the name of the head of the household, stating the family's names, gotra, the address and the purpose of the puja.
- 3Ganesh puja and Kalash sthapana. Lord Ganesha is worshipped first, followed by the establishment of the kalash with water, mango leaves and a coconut, invoking holy rivers and deities.
- 4Punyahavachan and Navagraha puja. Purification mantras are recited and water is sprinkled through the home. The nine planetary deities are worshipped for a balanced beginning.
- 5Vastu puja. Vastu Purusha is worshipped, often with a Vastu yantra or small offerings placed in key directions, as per family custom.
- 6Havan. A havan is performed with ghee, samagri and specific ahutis for Ganesha, Navagraha and Vastu devata.
- 7Milk boiling and first offering. In many families, milk is boiled in the new kitchen until it overflows, and a simple bhog such as kheer is prepared and offered.
- 8Aarti and blessings. The puja concludes with aarti, distribution of prasad and blessings for the family. Many families also feed Brahmins or guests.

What is the cost of Griha Pravesh Puja in Banda?
Griha Pravesh Puja in Banda starts from about ₹8,100 for one Pandit and around 2 to 4 hours. The final dakshina depends on the number of Pandits, the chant count, and travel within Banda. Samagri is not included in the dakshina; it is at an additional cost, agreed after discussion with Pandit ji. We share an exact quote on WhatsApp.
Can I get a Hindi speaking Pandit for Griha Pravesh Puja in Banda?
Yes. Pandits in Banda speak Hindi and Bundeli. Tell us the language you want the puja explained in and whether you follow North Indian or local vidhi, and we match the Pandit.
Do you send Pandits to Civil Lines, Atarra, Baberu and Naraini?
Yes. Pandits come to homes across Banda, including Civil Lines, Atarra, Baberu, Naraini and Kalinjar, and nearby towns on request. Share your address and we confirm travel.
Will the Pandit bring the samagri for Griha Pravesh Puja?
Samagri is not included in the dakshina. The Pandit sends the Griha Pravesh Puja samagri list in advance; you can buy it yourself, or Pandit ji can arrange it in Banda at an additional cost, agreed after discussion.

How long does Griha Pravesh Puja take?
A simple Griha Pravesh with Ganesh puja, Vastu puja and a small havan usually takes two to three hours. With Vastu Shanti, Navagraha havan or a Satyanarayan Katha added, plan for four to five hours. The Pandit will confirm timings once the muhurat is fixed.
Which months are avoided for Griha Pravesh?
Many families, especially in North India, avoid Pitru Paksha, Kharmas, Adhik Maas and the Chaturmas period, and prefer months such as Magh, Phalgun, Vaishakh and Jyeshtha. Customs differ between regions and families, so the Pandit checks the panchang against your family's practice before suggesting a muhurat.
Can we do a havan for Griha Pravesh in an apartment?
Yes. Pandits use a small havan kund with dry samagri and ghee to keep smoke low, and choose a spot near a balcony or window. Check your society's rules and let the security team know about smoke detectors in advance.
