South Indian tradition
Homams, vrathams and poojas in the South Indian style, with Vedic chanting in Sanskrit and guidance in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada or Malayalam.

About
South Indian ritual practice brings together the traditions of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. The mantras are largely Vedic and chanted in Sanskrit, while the explanation, the names of rituals and many small customs follow the family's own language and community.
Families from the South often look for a purohit who understands their sampradaya and the order of rituals they grew up with, whether that is a Ganapathi Homam at dawn, a Satyanarayana Vratham or a Gruhapravesam with boiling milk. We connect you with a Pandit familiar with the South Indian vidhi and, where possible, your specific regional tradition.

Homams are central to many South Indian observances. Ganapathi Homam, Navagraha Homam, Ayush Homam and Sudarshana Homam are commonly performed at home, with Vedic chanting in Sanskrit and ahutis offered into a homa kundam. Many families prefer to begin these early in the morning, often around sunrise.
The order of the puja commonly includes Vighneshwara Puja, Punyahavachanam for purification, and kalasha sthapana, where the kalasham is often dressed with a coconut, mango leaves and sometimes a cloth or thread in a style specific to the community. Mangala snanam, a ritual bath before auspicious occasions, is observed by many families before weddings and sanskars.
Practices also follow the family's sampradaya. Smarta, Sri Vaishnava and Madhwa families, for example, may differ in the mantras used, the deities given prominence and details such as the tilak worn. Since these vary by community and family, it helps to tell the Pandit your sampradaya and any customs you want followed.
Many South Indian families prefer to begin homams such as Ganapathi Homam around sunrise, treating the early hours as especially auspicious.
A purification ritual with sanctified water, commonly performed at the start of house warmings, naming ceremonies and other sanskars.
The kalasham is set up with water, mango leaves and a coconut, and decorated in a style that often reflects the family's community.
Decorative patterns drawn at the entrance, known as kolam in Tamil and muggulu in Telugu, welcome the divine on auspicious days.
An auspicious bath, often with oil and turmeric, taken before weddings, festivals and important rituals in many families.
We connect you with a Pandit familiar with your regional vidhi wherever possible. Mention your language and community on WhatsApp so we can find a suitable purohit.
Yes. Let us know whether your family follows a Smarta, Sri Vaishnava, Madhwa or other tradition, and any specific customs, so the Pandit can plan the vidhi accordingly.
Many homams and vrathams can be performed with an online sankalp, where the Pandit conducts the ritual and your family joins by video and takes the sankalp with your names and gotra.
It depends on the homam, the number of purohits, duration and samagri. Share your details on WhatsApp and the cost will be shared with you there.
Some items differ, such as betel leaves and nuts, turmeric, kumkum, specific samidhas for the homam and regional prasad. The Pandit will share a list for your puja.
