Overview
Bhimaratha Shanti marks the completion of 70 years. It sits between Shashtipurti at 60 and Sathabhishekam at 80 in the series of milestone shantis observed in many Telugu, Kannada and Tamil families.
The day usually begins with Ganapati puja and kalash sthapana, followed by Navagraha puja, Ayushya homam or Mrityunjaya homam, and abhishek of the couple with the kalash water. Many families include a renewal of the marriage ceremony, with the mangalsutra tied again in the presence of children and grandchildren.
It is a family celebration as much as a ritual. A Pandit will plan the vidhi with you, from the number of kalashas and Pandits to the timing of the homam and the abhishek, so that the elders are comfortable through the day.

गुरुश्च शुक्रः शनिराहुकेतवः सर्वे ग्रहाः शान्तिकरा भवन्तु॥
Reaching 70 is honoured as a blessing in itself. Bhimaratha Shanti is a way for children and grandchildren to express gratitude and pray for the continued health of their elders.
The renewal of vows celebrates a long married life and brings the whole family together around the couple.
