What is Hanuman Chalisa Path?

The Hanuman Chalisa is a forty verse hymn by Goswami Tulsidas in praise of Lord Hanuman. A Hanuman Chalisa Path is an organised recitation, commonly 11, 21 or 108 times, led by a Pandit with the family joining in.

The path usually begins with Ganesh puja and sankalp, followed by Hanuman puja with sindoor, chameli oil, flowers and bhog, then the recitation, Bajrang Baan where desired, and aarti.

It is a simple and joyful path that families arrange at home, in offices or as a community programme, especially on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Hanuman Jayanti.

सर्वमङ्गलमाङ्गल्ये शिवे सर्वार्थसाधिके।

Significance

Lord Hanuman is revered for strength, courage, humility and devotion to Shri Ram. The Chalisa is one of the most widely recited hymns in Hindu homes.

Tulsidas is associated with Varanasi, where the Sankat Mochan Hanuman temple is traditionally linked with him. A path led by Pandits from Kashi carries special meaning for many families.
