Overview
What is Shani Shanti Puja?
Shani Dev is revered in Jyotish as the graha of discipline, karma and justice, a teacher who rewards patience and honest effort. Shani Shanti Puja is performed to honour him and seek a smoother, steadier passage through the phases of life associated with Saturn.
The vidhi typically includes Ganesh puja, a sankalp in your name, Shani puja with dark flowers and black sesame, an offering of mustard oil, and jaap of the Shani beej mantra, 'Om Praam Preem Praum Sah Shanaischaraya Namah'. The full traditional count is commonly given as 23,000 recitations, which a team of Pandits may complete over several days; shorter versions with 1,100 or 11,000 recitations are also common.
Because Shani is traditionally worshipped alongside Lord Hanuman and Lord Shiva, many families add Hanuman Chalisa, Sundarkand or a Rudrabhishek. Your Pandit will follow your family's custom and suggest a scope that suits your intention.

Significance
Shani is the slowest-moving of the classical grahas, spending about two and a half years in each sign. Periods such as Sade Sati, the roughly seven and a half years when Saturn transits the signs around one's natal Moon, and Shani Dhaiya are traditionally seen as times of learning, responsibility and inner growth, not something to fear.
Puranic stories describe Shani Dev's promise to Lord Hanuman that devotees of Hanuman would be treated gently, which is why Saturday Hanuman worship is closely linked with Shani shanti. Devotees associate this puja with patience, perseverance and a calmer outlook while working through challenges.
