What is Mangal Dosha Puja?
Mangal, also called Bhaum or Kuja, is associated in Jyotish with energy, courage, determination and property. Mangal Dosha, often called being 'Manglik', is a term used when Mars occupies certain houses of the birth chart, most commonly the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th (some traditions include the 2nd). It is frequently discussed during marriage matching.
It is worth knowing that Mangal Dosha is very common and that astrologers differ on how it is assessed, many consider factors that reduce or cancel it, such as the positions of other grahas or a similar placement in both partners' charts. The vidhi typically includes Ganesh puja, sankalp, Mangal puja with red flowers and red lentils, and jaap of the Mangal beej mantra 'Om Kraam Kreem Kraum Sah Bhaumaya Namah', commonly 10,000 times for a full anushthan. In the Puranas, Mangal is described as the son of Bhumi Devi (Mother Earth), which is why he is also called Bhaum. He is portrayed as a red, four-armed warrior, and is linked with vitality, protection of land and the fire of action.
