What is Lakshmi Puja?
Lakshmi Puja honours Goddess Mahalakshmi, the consort of Lord Vishnu, who is associated with shri: prosperity, abundance, grace and auspiciousness. The best-known Lakshmi Puja takes place on Diwali, the Amavasya of Kartik, when homes and shops are lit with diyas to welcome the Goddess.
The puja is usually performed together with Ganesha, and often with Kuber and Saraswati, especially in business households where account books are also worshipped. The vidhi typically includes kalash sthapana, shodashopachara offerings, recitation of the Shri Suktam, Lakshmi Ashtottara names or the Kanakadhara Stotram, and aarti.
Many families also perform Lakshmi Puja on Fridays, on Sharad Purnima (Kojagari Lakshmi Puja in eastern India), during Dhanteras and at a new home or business. Rituals and timings differ by region and family, and the Pandit will follow your custom.
In North Indian and Marwari homes Diwali night centres on Lakshmi Ganesh pujan in the Pradosh kaal, with new idols, kheel and batashe, a silver coin and the family's account books, and many shops hold a separate Lakshmi puja for the business. Hindi speaking families and traders living in Hyderabad, Bangalore and other cities often want exactly this at home and at the shop, and we arrange Pandits who follow the North Indian vidhi, along with Telugu and Kannada Purohits for local customs.
Significance
In the Puranas, Lakshmi emerges from the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan) seated on a lotus. The lotus, rising clean from muddy water, is seen as a symbol of purity amid worldly life, and the Goddess is associated with both material and spiritual well-being.
The Shri Suktam, a hymn found in the khila (supplementary) portion of the Rigveda, is one of the oldest prayers to Lakshmi and remains central to her worship. Devotees see the puja not only as a request for abundance but as gratitude for what the household already has.
नमस्तेऽस्तु महामाये श्रीपीठे सुरपूजिते।
शङ्खचक्रगदाहस्ते महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते॥

Lakshmi Puja FAQs
If yours is not here, ask it. A real person answers every message on WhatsApp.
When should I book a Pandit for Diwali Lakshmi Puja?
As early as you can. Diwali evening is the single busiest time of the year for Pandits, and most are booked for the Pradosh kaal weeks ahead. Share your address and whether you need the home, the shop or both, and we will plan the timings.
Do you arrange Dhanteras puja?
Yes. On Dhanteras many families worship Lakshmi, Kuber and Dhanvantari, light the Yam deepak, and offer the new utensils or gold bought that day. The Pandit can do this as a short evening puja at home or at your shop.
Can the Pandit do chopda pujan or bahi khata puja for our business?
Yes. For Gujarati, Marwari and other trading families, the Pandit performs chopda or bahi khata pujan on Diwali with Lakshmi Ganesh puja, writing shubh labh and the swastik in the new account books as your family's custom requires.
Do you arrange Vaibhav Lakshmi or Friday Mahalakshmi puja and its udyapan?
Yes. Many families keep the Vaibhav Lakshmi vrat on Fridays for a set number of weeks and close it with an udyapan. The Pandit can guide the weekly puja and perform the udyapan with katha and kanya bhojan.
Can you arrange a North Indian Pandit for Lakshmi Puja in Delhi NCR, Hyderabad or Pune?
Yes. We arrange Hindi speaking Pandits who follow the North Indian vidhi for Diwali Lakshmi Ganesh pujan at home and at the shop. For Varalakshmi Vratham or other local customs, we arrange a Telugu or Kannada Purohit.
What is the cost of Lakshmi Puja with a Pandit?
It depends on the vidhi, the number of Pandits, samagri and location. Diwali evening slots are in high demand, so share your details on WhatsApp early for a quote.
Can a Pandit perform Lakshmi Puja at both home and shop on Diwali?
Often yes, if timings and locations allow. Many business families do the shop puja first and the home puja after. Let us know both addresses when you enquire.
What is the right time for Lakshmi Puja on Diwali?
It is traditionally done in the Pradosh kaal after sunset on Kartik Amavasya. The exact muhurat changes every year, and the Pandit will confirm it for your location.
Can Lakshmi Puja be done online?
Yes. The Pandit takes the sankalp in your name and you join by video call, keeping a simple setup with a diya, image and flowers at home.
Is Lakshmi Puja only for Diwali?
No. Many families perform it on Fridays, Sharad Purnima, Dhanteras, or when starting a business or entering a new home.
