A shanti puja traditionally performed when a birth chart shows Grahan Yog, or for a person born during a solar or lunar eclipse.
Overview
In Jyotish, Grahan Yog is said to form when the Sun or Moon is closely associated with Rahu or Ketu in a birth chart. Families also traditionally perform a shanti when a child is born during a solar or lunar eclipse.
The puja usually includes Ganesh puja, Navagraha puja, jaap of Surya or Chandra mantras along with Rahu and Ketu mantras, a havan and daan as advised by the Pandit.
The Pandit will first look at the birth details you share and explain whether a shanti is customary in your case, and which vidhi suits your family tradition.
ब्रह्मा मुरारिस्त्रिपुरान्तकारी भानुः शशी भूमिसुतो बुधश्च।
गुरुश्च शुक्रः शनिराहुकेतवः सर्वे ग्रहाः शान्तिकरा भवन्तु॥
Brahmā murāris tripurāntakārī bhānuḥ śaśī bhūmisuto budhaś ca, guruś ca śukraḥ śani rāhu ketavaḥ sarve grahāḥ śāntikarā bhavantu.
Eclipses hold an important place in Hindu tradition, with snan, jaap and daan observed during and after them. Grahan Dosh Shanti extends this idea to the birth chart.
The puja is a prayer for steadiness and clarity. It is best understood as a devotional practice rooted in tradition, not as a prediction or guarantee about the future.

The sankalp is taken with your name, gotra, nakshatra and the purpose of the shanti.
The nine grahas are worshipped, with special attention to Surya, Chandra, Rahu and Ketu.
The relevant graha mantras are chanted a set number of times, as per the vidhi.
Offerings are made into the fire with the graha mantras.
Daan items associated with the grahas are offered, followed by aarti and prasad.
The exact vidhi varies by region and family tradition, your Pandit will follow your customs.
