Mata ki Chowki & Jagran for families in Himayat Sagar
Mata ki Chowki is a devotional gathering in which the family invites Mata Rani into the home. A decorated chowki, a small raised seat, is set up for the Goddess, the akhand jyot is lit, and the evening is filled with bhajans, katha and aarti. A Jagran, also called Jagrata, is the longer form that continues through the night until dawn.
Himayat Sagar takes its name from the reservoir built on the Esi river in the Nizam's time, one of the two old lakes that once supplied Hyderabad with drinking water. The villages around it sit between Rajendranagar, Shamshabad and the Outer Ring Road.
