Banashankari takes its name from the Banashankari Amma temple on Kanakapura Road, a much visited shrine of the Goddess, especially busy on Tuesdays, Fridays and during Rahu Kala pujas. The area spreads over several stages south of Basavanagudi and west of Jayanagar.
