Overview
Seemantham (Godh Bharai) for families in Cox Town
Seemantham, known in the North as Godh Bharai and in Tamil homes as Valaikappu, is the ceremony held during pregnancy to bless the expectant mother and her baby. Its Vedic name is Simantonnayana Sanskar, one of the sixteen sanskars.
Cox Town is one of the old cantonment neighbourhoods of east Bangalore, lying beside Frazer Town, Cooke Town and Jeevanahalli. Its quiet streets still have some old bungalows with gardens, now joined by low rise apartment buildings.
