  2. 2Ganesh Pujan and sankalp. The Pandit begins with Ganesh Pujan and takes the sankalp with the names and gotra of the family members.
  3. 3Chitragupta puja and kalam dawat pujan. Roli, akshat, flowers and sweets are offered to Chitragupta ji, and the pens and inkpot are worshipped as his symbols.
  4. 4Writing the offering. Each family member writes on a fresh sheet, traditionally the household's income and expenses, a prayer or the name of Lord Ram, and offers it at the altar.
  5. 5Katha and aarti. The Pandit narrates the Chitragupta katha in Hindi, followed by aarti and distribution of prasad.
