Overview
Durga Saptashati Path for families in Shivajinagar
Durga Saptashati, also called the Devi Mahatmya or Chandi Path, is a holy text of 700 verses (sapta-shati) in 13 chapters, forming part of the Markandeya Purana. It narrates the Goddess's victories over Madhu-Kaitabha, Mahishasura and Shumbha-Nishumbha, and is one of the most revered texts of Shakta worship.
Shivajinagar is among the oldest parts of the old cantonment, with Russell Market, the Shivajinagar bus station and St Mary's Basilica at its centre and Commercial Street just to the south. Narrow lanes are packed with shops, wholesale markets and old houses.

For popular muhurat dates and festival seasons, it helps to enquire a week or two ahead where possible. For other dates, shorter notice is often manageable, we confirm availability on WhatsApp.

Yes. The same text is called Devi Mahatmya, Durga Saptashati or Chandi Path depending on the region.
Can the Pandit read Durga Saptashati for all nine days of Navratri?
Yes. Families usually choose either one full path every day, or a set number of chapters each day so the whole text is completed by Navami. Either can be done at your home or online with sankalp in your name, and closed with a havan on Ashtami or Navami.
Is the path read in Sanskrit? Will the meaning be explained?
The path is recited in the original Sanskrit, since correct pronunciation is part of the tradition. If you would like, the Pandit can explain the sankalp and the story of each charitra in Hindi, or in Telugu or Kannada where that is your family's language.
