  1. 1Setting up Isar and Gangaur. Images of Isar (Shiva) and Gangaur (Gauri) are placed on a decorated chowki, often with a kalash and wheat sprouts grown during the festival.
  2. 2Sankalp. The Pandit takes the sankalp for the women keeping the vrat, with their names and the purpose of the puja.
  3. 3Gauri pujan and shringar. Gauri is offered water, roli, mehndi, kajal, bangles, a chunari and other items of shringar, with flowers and durva.
  4. 4Offering of gune and sweets. Traditional sweets such as gune or ghewar and fruits are offered, and many families offer sixteen of each item.
  5. 5Katha, songs and aarti. The Gangaur katha is narrated, the women sing Gangaur songs, and the puja ends with aarti and prasad.
