Guwahati

What is Pind Daan?

A holy rite in which families offer pindas to honour departed loved ones and ancestors, performed with care by experienced Pandits in Kashi, by the Ganga.

Families in Guwahati book Pind Daan for during pitru paksha, the fortnight traditionally dedicated to ancestors, and we arrange a Pandit who knows the full vidhi.

Pind Daan in Guwahati: Local Traditions

Guwahati sits beside the Brahmaputra below Nilachal hill, home to Kamakhya, one of the most revered Shakti Peethas. Ambubachi Mela draws huge crowds of pilgrims and sadhus, and Durga Puja is celebrated across the city.

Marwari families have traded in Guwahati for generations, centred on Fancy Bazar, and they book Hindi speaking Pandits for Diwali pujas, weddings and Sundarkand Path. Bihari and UP families, many in business, railways and defence, observe Chhath on the Brahmaputra ghats and look for Pandits who know the Purvanchal vidhi.

What is the cost of Pind Daan in Guwahati?

Pind Daan in Guwahati starts from about ₹6,100 for one Pandit and around 2 to 3 hours. The final dakshina depends on the number of Pandits, the chant count, and travel within Guwahati. Samagri is not included in the dakshina; it is at an additional cost, agreed after discussion with Pandit ji. We share an exact quote on WhatsApp.

Can I get a Hindi speaking Pandit for Pind Daan in Guwahati?

Yes. Pandits in Guwahati speak Assamese, Hindi and Bengali. Tell us the language you want the puja explained in and whether you follow North Indian or local vidhi, and we match the Pandit.

Do you send Pandits to Fancy Bazar, Paltan Bazar, Pan Bazar and Uzan Bazar?

Yes. Pandits come to homes across Guwahati, including Fancy Bazar, Paltan Bazar, Pan Bazar, Uzan Bazar, Dispur and Ganeshguri, and nearby towns on request. Share your address and we confirm travel.

Yes. We can stream the puja live on video, or arrange a fully online Pind Daan with sankalp in your family's name.

How much does Pind Daan cost?

It depends on the vidhi, number of Pandits, samagri, boat hire and location. Share your details on WhatsApp and we will get back gently with a quote.

How early should we book Pind Daan for Pitru Paksha?

As early as you can. Pitru Paksha is the busiest fortnight of the year on the ghats of Kashi, and the dates people prefer, the tithi of the departed and Sarva Pitru Amavasya, fill up first. Share the names, gotra, the tithi if you know it, and your travel dates, and we will plan the rite.

Can Pind Daan be done online if we cannot travel to Varanasi?

Yes. A Pandit performs the pinda offerings at a Varanasi ghat with sankalp in the names of your departed family members and your gotra, and you join by video. Many families living in other cities or abroad choose this, and some travel to Kashi later for the rite in person.
