Pitru Dosha Puja in Ujjain: Local Traditions
Ujjain is home to Mahakaleshwar, the only south facing Jyotirlinga, and one of the four cities that host the Kumbh, here called Simhastha. The city lives by its temples, and pilgrims arrive every day for darshan and specific dosh nivaran pujas.
Ujjain's ritual life follows the Malwa vidhi, with a long line of priest families who serve pilgrims at Mahakal, Mangalnath and the Shipra ghats. Visitors from across the Hindi belt book dosh nivaran pujas here and expect the Pandit to explain every step in Hindi.
