- 1Ganapati Puja and sankalp. The homam begins with worship of Ganapati and a sankalp in the name of the person, with their gotra, nakshatra and rashi.
- 2Punyahavachanam. Purification of the space, the participants and the ritual items with water sanctified by Vedic mantras.
- 3Kalash sthapana and avahan. A kalash is established and Ayur Devata is invoked into it, along with other deities as per the vidhi.
- 4Agni pratishtha. The holy fire is kindled in the homa kund with mantras and prepared for the offerings.
- 5Homam with Ayush Suktam. Ghee, samidha and other offerings are made into the fire while Ayush Suktam and related mantras are chanted, often a set number of times.
- 6Purnahuti. The final offering is made with a coconut or dry fruits, cloth and ghee to complete the homam.
- 7Kalash abhishek and blessings. Water from the kalash is sprinkled over the person, followed by aarti, akshata blessings from elders and distribution of prasad.
