Havan in Dharamshala: Local Traditions

Dharamshala sits below the Dhauladhar in Kangra, the land of the Devi shaktipeeths. Chamunda Devi, Brajeshwari Devi in Kangra and Jwalamukhi are within easy reach, and the Bhagsunag Mandir of Shiva above McLeod Ganj draws visitors through the year.

Dharamshala follows the Kangra Pahadi vidhi, explained in Hindi, Kangri or Punjabi, with local Brahmin and Rajpurohit families serving as purohits. Havan and Devi puja are part of most family rites.
