Krishna Puja vidhi, step by step

  1. 1Decorating the altar. The altar is decorated with flowers, and for Janmashtami a small cradle (jhoola) is prepared for Bal Krishna.
  2. 2Ganesh Pujan and sankalp. Ganesha is worshipped first, then the Pandit takes the sankalp with the family's names, gotra and intention.
  3. 3Avahan. Shri Krishna is invoked into the idol or Laddu Gopal with Vedic and Puranic mantras.
  4. 4Panchamrit abhishek. The deity is bathed with milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar, then with Ganga jal, often at midnight on Janmashtami.
  5. 5Shringar and offerings. Krishna is dressed in new clothes, adorned with a peacock feather and flute, and offered tulsi, flowers, chandan, makhan-mishri and other bhog.
