What is Pind Daan?

A holy rite in which families offer pindas to honour departed loved ones and ancestors, performed with care by experienced Pandits in Kashi, by the Ganga.

Pind Daan is among the rituals families in Ayodhya book most often, alongside Mundan Sanskar, Saryu Snan and Pujan and Akhand Ramayan Path.

Pind Daan in Ayodhya: Local Traditions

Ayodhya, the birthplace of Shri Ram on the banks of the Saryu, has seen a surge of pilgrims since the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir opened in 2024. Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhawan and the Nageshwarnath Mandir are part of every pilgrim's round, and the city's ghats host Mundan, Saryu Pujan and ancestral rites every day.

Ayodhya is the home ground of the Saryupareen Brahmins, named after the land beyond the Saryu, and many purohit families here are Saryupareen. Worship is shaped by the Ramanandi Vaishnav tradition, with Ramcharitmanas recitation, Sundarkand and Akhand Ramayan Path central to both temple and household rites.

Samagri is not included in the dakshina; it is at an additional cost, agreed after discussion with Pandit ji. There is no payment to enquire.

What is the cost of Pind Daan in Ayodhya?

Pind Daan in Ayodhya starts from about ₹6,100 for one Pandit and around 2 to 3 hours. The final dakshina depends on the number of Pandits, the chant count, and travel within Ayodhya. Can I get a Hindi speaking Pandit for Pind Daan in Ayodhya?

It depends on the vidhi, number of Pandits, samagri, boat hire and location. Share your details on WhatsApp and we will get back gently with a quote.

How early should we book Pind Daan for Pitru Paksha?

As early as you can. Pitru Paksha is the busiest fortnight of the year on the ghats of Kashi, and the dates people prefer, the tithi of the departed and Sarva Pitru Amavasya, fill up first. Share the names, gotra, the tithi if you know it, and your travel dates, and we will plan the rite.

Can Pind Daan be done online if we cannot travel to Varanasi?

Yes. A Pandit performs the pinda offerings at a Varanasi ghat with sankalp in the names of your departed family members and your gotra, and you join by video. Many families living in other cities or abroad choose this, and some travel to Kashi later for the rite in person.
