Overview
Upanayana, widely known as Janeu Sanskar, is the ceremony in which a child receives the holy thread (yagnopavit) and is initiated into the Gayatri Mantra. Traditionally it marked the beginning of formal Vedic study under a guru, and it remains an important sanskar in many Hindu families.
