Ganesh Chaturthi is observed with great devotion in many Marathi homes. The family brings an idol home, and the Pandit performs pranapratishtha and the shodashopachara puja, with modak as naivedya. Depending on family tradition, Ganpati stays for one and a half, five, seven or ten days before visarjan.
Satyanarayan Pooja is very common, often after a wedding, a new home or on Purnima, with the katha read and prasad of sheera. For a new home, many Marathi families perform Vastu Shanti, frequently combined with Griha Pravesh and a homam on the same day.
