Durga Puja in Shimla: Local Traditions

Shimla's temples sit on its ridges and hills, from the Jakhu Mandir of Hanuman above the Ridge to Tara Devi, Kali Bari and the Sankat Mochan Mandir. Navratri at Tara Devi and Sankat Mochan draws large numbers, and village families in the surrounding hills keep the Sair festival and devta traditions.

Shimla follows the Himachali Pahadi vidhi, with local purohits and explanation in Hindi or Pahari, while Punjabi Hindu families bring Mata ki Chowki and Karva Chauth customs. Devi worship and havan are central, and village devta traditions are respected alongside household rites.
