Mata ki Chowki & Jagran vidhi, step by step
- 1Setting up the chowki. A decorated chowki is prepared with a red cloth, the image or pindi form of the Goddess, flowers, chunari and the place for the jyot.
- 2Ganesh Pujan and kalash sthapana. The Pandit begins with Ganesh Pujan, installs the kalash and takes the sankalp with the family's names and gotra.
- 3Jyot prajwalan. The akhand jyot is lit with ghee and worshipped as the presence of the Goddess, to burn through the evening.
- 4Mata ki puja and bhog. The Goddess is offered chunari, shringar, flowers, fruits, halwa, chana and puri as bhog with Durga mantras.
- 5Bhajans and Taara Rani katha. The bhajan mandali sings Mata's bhajans, and in many families the katha of Taara Rani is narrated.
