Rudrabhishek vidhi, step by step

1. 1Sankalp. The Pandit takes the sankalp with the devotee's name, gotra, place and intention for the abhishek.
2. 2Ganesh and Gauri puja. Lord Ganesha and Goddess Gauri are worshipped first, along with Kalash sthapana and Navagraha puja as per vidhi.
3. 3Shivling sthapana and invocation. The Shivling is placed facing north with its outlet (jalhari) positioned correctly, and Lord Shiva is invoked with Vedic mantras.
4. 4Abhishek with Rudri chanting. While the Rudrashtadhyayi or Sri Rudram is recited, Gangajal, milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugarcane juice and panchamrit are offered in a steady stream.
5. 5Shringar. The Shivling is cleaned and adorned with chandan, bhasma, bel patra, dhatura, akshat and flowers.
6. 6Offerings and Shiva mantras. Bhog is offered, and mantras such as Om Namah Shivaya and the Mahamrityunjaya mantra may be chanted.
7. 7Aarti and prasad. The puja concludes with Shiva aarti, pradakshina and distribution of prasad and charanamrit.
