Lord Shiva (Rudra)
Maha Rudrabhishek
The grandest form of Rudra worship, traditionally 1331 recitations of the Rudram by a large group of Pandits, with abhishek and havan over several days.

Overview
What is Maha Rudrabhishek?
Maha Rudrabhishek, or Maha Rudra, is the most elaborate form of Rudra worship. In the traditional reckoning, one Ekadasha Rudra is eleven recitations of the Rudram; eleven Ekadasha Rudras make a Laghu Rudra (121 recitations); and eleven Laghu Rudras make a Maha Rudra, 1331 recitations in total. These are usually accompanied by continuous abhishek of the Shivling and often a Rudra havan.
Because of its scale, a Maha Rudra is typically undertaken by a team of Pandits over several days, for example, 11 Pandits across 11 days, or a larger group over fewer days. It is often organised by families for milestone occasions, or by temples, trusts and communities as a collective offering.
Practice varies between traditions: some count recitations of the full Rudrashtadhyayi, others the Namakam with Chamakam, and some pair each recitation with specific Chamakam anuvakas. The Pandit will explain the exact format being followed so that the scale and commitment are clear before you plan.
ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्।
उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्मृत्योर्मुक्षीय माऽमृतात्॥
Oṁ tryambakaṁ yajāmahe sugandhiṁ puṣṭivardhanam, urvārukam iva bandhanān mṛtyor mukṣīya mā'mṛtāt.
Significance
The Rudram is among the most revered hymns of the Yajurveda, and repeating it in large, precise multiples is traditionally regarded as a way of magnifying devotion. The progression from Rudrabhishek to Ekadasha Rudra, Laghu Rudra and Maha Rudra reflects a scriptural sense that more sustained worship reflects deeper surrender.
Devotees associate Maha Rudra with blessings for the family, community and wider world, and it is often performed with a collective sankalp for peace. Hosting one is traditionally considered a significant act of merit and a rare spiritual occasion.
