Assi Ghat sits at the southern end of Varanasi's main stretch of ghats, near where the Assi stream traditionally meets the Ganga. It is more open and relaxed than the ghats further north, and its wide steps make it a popular starting point for a morning on the river.
The surrounding neighbourhood is full of guest houses, cafés and homes, and is close to Lanka and Banaras Hindu University. Many visiting families stay nearby, which makes Assi a practical base for planning pujas in Kashi.
