Overview
What is Kaal Bhairav Puja?
Kaal Bhairav Puja is devotion to Bhairav, the fierce and protective form of Lord Shiva. In Varanasi he holds a special place as the Kotwal, the guardian of the city, and many pilgrims traditionally seek his darshan after visiting Kashi Vishwanath.
The puja usually includes sankalp, Bhairav avahan, abhishek, offerings of mustard oil, black sesame, flowers and sweets, recitation of the Kaal Bhairav Ashtakam and aarti. Some families also include Bhairav mantra jaap or a small havan, depending on their tradition.
The puja can be performed at home, arranged near the Kaal Bhairav temple in Varanasi where temple rules allow, or done with an online sankalp for families who cannot travel.

Significance
