Delhi

What is Roka & Sagai Ceremony?

The North Indian ceremonies that formally fix a marriage, with Ganesh Pujan, tilak, the exchange of gifts and rings, and blessings from both families, guided by a Pandit.

In Delhi, Roka and Sagai are held at home, in a restaurant or a small banquet hall, and are sometimes combined in one function. A Pandit helps the families keep the puja meaningful while the celebration goes on around it.

Why Families Choose Delhi for Roka & Sagai Ceremony

The Roka is a very Punjabi and Delhi tradition, and over the years it has become common in many North Indian families in the city. It is often arranged at short notice once the families agree, at the girl's home in a colony like Rajouri Garden or Greater Kailash, followed by lunch with both families.

Families from UP and Bihar may call the step Tilak, Chheka or Sagai and follow somewhat different rituals. The Pandit can adapt to the customs of both families, and also suggest a muhurat for the wedding if asked.
