What is Office & Shop Opening Puja?
Opening a new shop, office or business premises is traditionally marked with a puja before the first customer is welcomed. The ritual centres on Lord Ganesha, remover of obstacles, and Goddess Lakshmi, associated with prosperity, often along with Kalash sthapana, Navagraha worship and a short havan.
Many business families also worship the tools of their trade, account books (bahi-khata), the cash box, computers, weighing scales or machinery, and draw a swastik and 'Shubh Labh' at the entrance. Some add Satyanarayan Katha or Vastu Shanti for a larger ceremony.
The format is flexible and can be adapted for a small shop, a corporate office or a factory floor. Traditions differ across trading communities and regions, and the Pandit follows your family's or business's custom.

How the puja is performed

Entrance preparation
The entrance is decorated with a toran, swastik and Shubh Labh; a clean space is prepared for the puja.

Sankalp
The Pandit takes the sankalp in the name of the owner or partners, including the business name, address and intention.

Ganesh puja and Kalash sthapana
Lord Ganesha is worshipped first and a kalash is established with water, mango leaves and coconut.

Lakshmi puja
Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped with lotus or red flowers, sweets and coins, often alongside Kuber in trading traditions.

Worship of account books and tools
Bahi-khata, the cash counter, computers, scales or machinery are marked with roli and worshipped as per custom.

Havan
A short havan is performed with ahutis for Ganesha, Lakshmi and the Navagraha, if space allows.

Aarti and first transaction
The puja ends with aarti and prasad. Many owners then make a symbolic first sale or open the doors to customers.
