Overview
What is Narasimha Puja?
Narasimha Puja is the worship of Lord Narasimha, the fourth avatar of Vishnu, who appeared as half-man and half-lion to protect his young devotee Prahlada from the tyrant Hiranyakashipu. He is revered as a fierce protector of devotees and is often worshipped in his peaceful form together with Goddess Lakshmi as Lakshmi Narasimha.
The puja typically includes invocation of Narasimha, abhishek, offerings of tulsi and flowers, recitation of the Narasimha Kavacham, Narasimha Stotram or Runa Vimochana Narasimha Stotram, and japa of mantras such as Ugram Viram Maha Vishnum. In South Indian tradition, panakam (a jaggery and cardamom drink) is a well-loved offering.
It is especially observed on Narasimha Jayanti and on Swati nakshatra, and may be combined with a Sudarshan or Narasimha homam. Vaishnava sampradayas have their own vidhis, and the Pandit will follow your family's tradition.

Significance
The Bhagavata and Vishnu Puranas tell how Narasimha emerged from a pillar at twilight, neither by day nor night, on a threshold, neither inside nor outside, to honour the boon Hiranyakashipu had received while protecting Prahlada. The story is remembered as an assurance that sincere devotion is never abandoned.
Devotees associate Narasimha with protection from fear, negative influences and adversity. Because of Prahlada's example, his worship is also linked with steadfast faith, especially for children and families facing hardship.

The puja begins with Ganesh Pujan and a sankalp in the family's name, gotra and intention.

Kalash sthapana and avahan
A kalash is established and Lord Narasimha, with Lakshmi, is invoked into the idol or image.

Abhishek
The deity is bathed with panchamrit and water, sometimes with sandalwood water, as per tradition.

Narasimha is offered tulsi, red and yellow flowers, chandan, vastra, incense, lamp and naivedya, including panakam where customary.

The Narasimha Kavacham, Narasimha Stotram or Runa Vimochana stotra is recited, with japa of the Narasimha mantra.
