Overview
What is Shri Ram Puja?
Shri Ram Puja is the worship of Lord Rama, the seventh avatar of Vishnu, honoured as Maryada Purushottam, the ideal of righteous conduct. Most families worship him as the Ram Darbar, together with Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman, as a picture of a united and dharmic household.
The most important day for his worship is Ram Navami, on Chaitra Shukla Navami, when his birth is celebrated at noon. In the Telugu tradition the same day is marked by Sita Rama Kalyanam, celebrated famously at Bhadrachalam. Families also perform Ram Puja on Vivah Panchami, Dussehra and Diwali, and at family milestones.
The vidhi usually includes Ganesh Pujan, invocation of the Ram Darbar, shodashopachara offerings, recitation of the Ram Raksha Stotra or Rama Ashtottaram, Ram naam japa and aarti. The Pandit follows your family's custom and language.

Significance
The Ramayana presents Rama as a son, husband, brother and king who always chose dharma, even at great personal cost. His life is held up in Hindu tradition as a guide for conduct in the family and in society.

An altar is set with the Ram Darbar, a kalash, lamps, tulsi and flowers.

Ganesh Pujan and sankalp
The puja begins with Ganesh Pujan and a sankalp in the family's name and gotra.

Shodashopachara puja
The sixteen traditional offerings are made to Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman, with tulsi and yellow flowers.

Path and japa
The Ram Raksha Stotra, Rama Ashtottaram or selected verses from the Ramayana are recited, with Ram naam japa.

Naivedya and aarti
Panakam, kosambari or other naivedya is offered as per custom, followed by aarti with the family.
