Overview
What is Sathabhishekam?
Sathabhishekam is the celebration of a person’s eightieth year, traditionally reckoned as the time when they have seen a thousand full moons. It is also known as Sahasra Chandra Darshan and is especially cherished in South Indian families.
The ceremony follows a pattern similar to Shashtipurti, with Ganesh Puja, Kalash Puja, a homam and kalasha abhishekam for the couple, along with a renewal of vows where both spouses are present. Children and grandchildren gather to seek the elders’ blessings.
