Saroornagar lies in the south-east of the city, built around its lake and the sports stadium nearby. It is one of the older settled parts of this side of Hyderabad, with government employee colonies, housing board blocks and quiet residential lanes that have been lived in for decades.
Alongside those older colonies, newer apartment blocks have come up on redeveloped plots, so the neighbourhood now holds both long-settled families and younger households moving in for the first time. LB Nagar, Dilsukhnagar and Kothapet are all a short drive away for samagri and flowers.
Rituals families seek here
Most households here follow Telugu customs closely, and Satyanarayana Vratham is the ritual booked most often, on Purnima, during Karthika masam, or after a wedding or a move. Families in the older colonies usually keep to the vidhi their parents followed and prefer the katha read in Telugu.
