Bengali Purohit in Hyderabad
Many Bengali families have settled in Hyderabad for work, and Durga Puja celebrations in the city bring the community together each autumn. At home, families most often look for Kojagari Lokkhi Puja, Satyanarayan Sinni, Saraswati Puja, Griha Prabesh and Shraddho.

Finding a purohit who follows the Bengali order of worship can be difficult in a South Indian city. Share the ritual, date and your family's customs on WhatsApp, and we will connect you with a Pandit familiar with the Bengali vidhi, who can guide you in Bengali or Hindi and advise on items such as alpona, bhog and ghat.

About Bengali vidhi
Bengali puja practice follows its own ritual manuals and order of worship. Lokkhi Puja is commonly performed at home on Kojagari Purnima, the full moon after Durga Puja, with alpona drawn on the floor, a lokkhi jhapi or ghat, and bhog such as khichuri, labra and naru. Many families also worship Lokkhi on Thursdays.
Satyanarayan Puja is often called Sinni in Bengali homes, after the prasad of flour, milk, banana and sugar mixed together. It is commonly held on Purnima or after a family event, with the Panchali read aloud in Bengali.
