What is Swayamvara Parvathi Homam?

Swayamvara Parvathi Homam invokes Goddess Parvati as the one who, through devotion and tapasya, chose Lord Shiva as her husband. The homam uses the Swayamvara Parvathi mantra and is especially popular in South India.

The vidhi includes Ganesh puja, sankalp in the name of the person seeking marriage, kalash sthapana, Parvati avahan and offerings into the fire, followed by purnahuti and aarti.

Families often perform it on Fridays or on a muhurat recommended after looking at the horoscope. It is a prayer for blessings and is not a promise of any particular outcome.
