Mumbai

What is Vivah Sanskar (Hindu Wedding Ceremony)?

The Vedic wedding ceremony, from Ganesh Puja and Kanyadaan to the holy fire, Saptapadi and Sindoor Daan, conducted by experienced Pandits as per your family’s tradition.

In Mumbai a single wedding season brings together every kind of Hindu ceremony, and finding a Pandit who knows your community's vidhi, and can work to a banquet hall's timetable, matters as much as the muhurat.

Why Families Choose Mumbai for Vivah Sanskar (Hindu Wedding Ceremony)

A Marathi wedding in Dadar or Thane may have the Antarpat, Mangalashtak and Saptapadi, a Gujarati wedding in Borivali or Ghatkopar may have Mandap Mahurat, Hasta Melap and the pheras, while a North Indian wedding in Andheri or Mira Road follows its own order of jaimala, kanyadaan and seven pheras. South Indian families in Chembur and Matunga keep their own customs again.

Inter-community weddings are common in the city too, and many couples ask for a ceremony that respects both families. The Pandit can explain each step in Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati or English so everyone feels included.

Local Traditions & Timing

  • Banquet halls and hotels often have strict slot timings and fire rules for the agni; confirm the havan kund size and placement with the venue.
  • Wedding season muhurats are shared by many families, so book the Pandit as soon as the date is fixed.
  • Monsoon weddings on lawns need a covered mandap and a dry spot for the agni.
  • Traffic between the bride's home, the venue and the groom's side can be heavy; build travel time into the schedule.
  • Sound and late night limits apply at many venues, so plan the pheras within the allowed time.

Where It's Performed & Planning Tips

Where it's performed

  • Banquet halls in Dadar, Andheri, Goregaon and Borivali
  • Lawns and resorts in Thane, Ghodbunder Road and Vasai
  • Hotels in Juhu, Powai and Navi Mumbai
  • Society halls and karyalayas for smaller weddings

Planning tips

  • Share both families' traditions so the Pandit can plan one clear order of rites.
  • Fix the muhurat with the Pandit before booking the venue slot, where possible.
  • Ask whether the Pandit will also conduct pre-wedding rites like Haldi, Simant Pujan or Grah Shanti.
  • Assign one family member to coordinate with the Pandit on the day.
  • Keep the havan samagri, garlands and mangalsutra ready well before the mandap time.
