Overview
What is Karnavedha Sanskar?
Karnavedha Sanskar is the ceremony in which a child’s ears are pierced for the first time. It is one of the sixteen Hindu sanskars and is still widely observed, especially in South Indian families, where it is often held together with Mundan or at a family temple.
The Pandit performs Ganesh Puja and prayers to the family deity and Surya Dev, and the piercing itself is done by a trained goldsmith or a qualified professional chosen by the family. The child is then blessed and dressed in new clothes, and the family shares prasad.
