What is Sri Chakra (Navavarana) Puja?
Sri Chakra Puja, also called Navavarana Puja, is the worship of the Divine Mother as Lalita Tripurasundari in the form of the Sri Chakra, the geometric yantra at the heart of the Sri Vidya tradition. The yantra is made of nine enclosures, or avaranas, and the puja moves inwards through each of them to the bindu at the centre.
The full Navavarana Puja is detailed and is traditionally performed by an upasaka initiated in Sri Vidya. Families who wish to have it performed at home usually ask for a shorter Sri Chakra archana with kumkum, which can be done with the family taking part. The Pandit explains which form suits your intention before you book.
The puja is especially popular on Fridays, Purnima and during Navratri, and among families in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka who keep a Sri Chakra at home.

Significance

The Sri Chakra is placed on a clean altar with a red cloth, lamps, kalash and kumkum.

Ganesh Pujan and sankalpam
The puja begins with Ganesh Pujan and a sankalpam in the family's name, gotra and nakshatra.

Abhishekam
Where appropriate, the Sri Chakra is bathed with milk, water and other offerings.

Kumkum archana or Navavarana
Kumkum archana is performed with the names of the Devi, or, for the full form, each of the nine avaranas is worshipped in turn by an initiated upasaka.

Naivedyam is offered, followed by harati and distribution of kumkum prasadam.
