Overview
What is Ekadashi Vrat Udyapan?
Many devotees take a vow to keep Ekadashi fasts for a set period, often one or several years. When the vow is complete, it is traditionally closed with an udyapan, a formal ceremony that offers the merit of the vow to Lord Vishnu and brings the observance to a respectful end.
The udyapan is usually performed on an Ekadashi, often Mokshada, Devuthani or another significant Ekadashi, with parana on the following Dwadashi. It includes Vishnu puja, recitation of Vishnu Sahasranama or other stotras, a havan, and the offering of food, clothes and dakshina as per custom.
A Pandit guides the family on the right tithi, the vidhi their tradition follows, and the offerings that are customary at the close of the vow.

Significance
Ekadashi is held dear to Lord Vishnu, and its fast is among the most widely kept vows in Hindu tradition. The udyapan completes the vow in the manner prescribed in the vrat texts.
Closing a vow formally is regarded as important, so that the devotion of many months or years is completed with gratitude and without omission.

The Pandit takes the sankalp for the udyapan, mentioning the vow, its period and the family's gotra.

Lord Vishnu is worshipped with shodashopachara, tulsi, yellow flowers and naivedya.

Path and havan
Vishnu Sahasranama or other stotras are recited, followed by a havan with the appropriate mantras.

Daan and parana
Food, clothes and dakshina are offered as per custom, and the fast is broken on Dwadashi at the correct time.
